HISTORY LOVES COMPANY · DETROIT FIELD GUIDE
Look beyond the landmark. Find the people, places, and ideas that made Detroit.
This guide connects Detroit’s public places and The American Ride’s cross-country stops with sourced history and original stories from History Loves Company. Road-trip evidence and visitor information are linked with each stop. The routes are self-guided suggestions. Sources appear with every landmark, and the collection was reviewed in October 2026.
Stay on public sidewalks and permitted park paths. Homes on the residential routes are private, even when historically significant. Please keep a respectful distance, avoid looking into windows, and do not approach doors or cross lawns for a photograph.
Map pins identify landmarks, not entrances or parking. Interiors, attractions, event areas, and grounds can have separate admission rules or opening hours. Check official visitor information and current conditions. Belle Isle vehicle entry requires a Recreation Passport.
These routes have not been surveyed for accessibility or measured for time and distance. Use marked crossings, respect closures, and never enter vacant buildings. Driving tours include walking stops: park legally before reading or watching.
Explore Nearby requests your device location only after you tap Start and allow it in your browser. The guide compares positions with landmarks in this browser; it does not upload coordinates, save a location trail, or share your position with the surrounding website. Stop clears the session. Your browser and operating system may use their own location services. Optional narration uses a voice marked as local by your browser. No separate app account is required. Map tiles, external directions, and films need internet access. Google Maps and YouTube follow their own privacy practices. If map tiles fail, use List view and the directions links.
